Estate Car Hire

Posted on November 3, 2013 by . 0 comments

Here’s 3 quick tips on hiring an estate car

1. On Car Hire Search we always include the word ‘Estate’ in the name of the vehicle. So when you see a quote you can be sure that you are definitely going to get the estate car you require. You can also filter a search to show Estates only by selecting the option from the car class drop down menu.

2. If you are visiting the US they refer to estate cars as ‘station wagons’

3. As estate cars are usually hired to carry lots of luggage and equipment they can take a little more abuse than a normal hire car. Be sure to check yours for scratches and scrapes before driving away. Any damage should be documented on your rental agreement by the car hire company representative.

Purchasing a Zero Excess Policy Before Collecting Your Hire Car

Posted on October 5, 2013 by . 0 comments

If you have purchased a ‘zero excess’ insurance policy before collecting your hire car you do not need to purchase any additional insurances at the car hire desk.

Car rental staff are often incentivised to up sell insurance policies to customers collecting their vehicle and we have had reports from Car Hire Search customers that the advice offered can sometimes be misleading. No matter what you are told your zero excess policy is valid. Should you damage the vehicle and an insurance claim is made you will be charged by the car hire company for the excess amount which will then be reimbursed to you by your zero excess insurer.

Who are Firefly?

Posted on October 5, 2013 by . 0 comments

Firefly is the name of Hertz‘s budget car hire brand. Vehicles are collected from the Hertz car rental desks and all vehicles are Hertz stock.

The main difference between booking with the Firefly brand rather than Hertz can be found in the rental terms and conditions. Whilst the car hire rate is often cheaper with Firefly the extra charges such as fuel, additional drivers, one way fees, child seats etc can be more. Fuel charges are the main charge to be aware of so be sure to read the T&C’s carefully.

Meet & Greet Car Hire

Posted on October 1, 2013 by . 0 comments

Meet and Greet car hire facilities tend to be in place at airports when there is only a limited amount of space available for car hire company desks.

To keep costs down some car hire companies will base themselves off airport (typically within 1-2 miles) and collect their customers from the airport when they land. This is known as ‘Meet & Greet’.

The larger companies such as Hertz will sometimes run regular shuttle bus between the airport and their car hire desk. Hertz have such a bus in operation at Heathrow.
