  • When I originally booked car hire I had stated that I needed to return the car at 5am , the quote stated the office was open and a transfer to the airport was included so I booked.
    When I got the voucher the office was not open till 6am so I could drop the keys but would have to make my own way to the airport.. As I was not happy trying to get a taxi in an unfamiliar area at 5am I decided to drop the car back the night before and book into an airport hotel
    I collected the car from Easirent which was located a short distance from the airport. I rang the office and a driver was sent out but I found the pick up point for the shuttle bus confusing and it took a while, ( due to Manchester airport being poorly signed)
    The fuel policy had been changed from Full to return empty which I personally don't like so I arranged to return full.
    The car was clean and ran well.
    My only complaint was the additional costs of £100+ I incurred having to book a hotel for the night.

  • The car hire price was good but when I went to pick up the car I was given a very hard sale about additional insurance required which would virtually double the price of the car hire or pay over 1,500 euro's to cover any scratches or dents and that it could take up to 8 weeks to get the money back, which would obviously incur charges if on a credit card, in the end I didn't take it and I got my money back within a week but I can see a lot of people paying the extra meaning they would have been one of the more expensive rentals, all in all I won't be renting from them again. #

  • Megadrive tried to charge for winter tyres when they were included in the price. Only one person was on the desk to process both bookings and receive returns. Queued for nearly an hour. Argus T&Cs do not specify cross border charge which leaves the provider to charge what they want. We paid extra to travel to Italy which is within Europe and only 50km to the south of Innsbruch. #

  • Customers should be weary that the Company will try and sell you more expensive hire cars for astronomically high rental charges.

    The car that I hired was "not available" at the time as I was an hour early. The company therefore tried to hard sell a BMW 1 Series at three times the value of the amount I had already paid. I declined, but did opt to upgrade to a slightly larger car in any event. Upon picking up the keys for the upgraded car, I noticed that the original car was ready - the Company clearly wanted to see if they could sell a more expensive car.

  • The car I booked on Arguscarhire listings was a Ford Focus but it proved to be a Nissan Tida, smaller car. The car was presented very dirty inside and I was waiting one hour to get another car. This car I had to pay extra because they didn't have a Ford Focus or a Nissan Tida available and brought another larger car. I ended paying double as intended on the original booking. This car was also dirty inside as well but after a night flight with two kids I gave up.
    Not likely that I will use Arguscarhire again.

    The car was not the best I have hired. It was badly damaged, dirty and the car was covered in sand.. The lights inside did not work and the radio was also broken. The car stunk when you put the air conditioning on.
    When hiring the car it was advertised that they fill the car with petrol and you return it empty which is fine as I thought it was but I only used 15 Euros and I had paid over 50. The guy at the return point was really helpful as was receptionist and also Elizabeth on the Limassol number. I am awaiting a refund as I write

  • The car was ready but the assistant at Eurocar, Carcassonne Airport was really under pressure due to unforseen circumstances.. We had to wait nearly 2hrs for the car, but the assistant, Anne Laure was really nice and professional.

  • We were given a car that was smaller than we paid for. When we went back to tell the customer service desk 5 minutes after getting the keys it had shut. We were stuck with a tiny car called a chevrolet Spark that we could not get our luggage in. My daughter had to travel 250 miles with some of it on her lap. I rang Argus and the man said it was nothing to do with him. He passed me to Citer who said we had got what we paid for. The car also jumps out of reverse on an incline.The petrol guage is faulty This was the worst experience I have ever had of hiring a car. #

  • Waited an hour at Europcar before car paperwork was processed, very offhand service, tried to push additional services, claimed insurance policy I arranged was not adequate and I needed to agree to Europcar insurance, which I refused. Then pointed in direction of car lot and told to "pick a car" no service or assistance from staff (none to be seen) Difficult to establish list of minor external damage so as to avoid being charged on return.
    Summary :- Would not recommend Europcar (London) to any car hirers.

  • Argus quoted me the the best price I could get; their service was comprehensive with all communicationd timely and clear.

    The vehicle pick-up and drop-off with Avis was quick and easy. The company offered a choice of 2 SUVs in a similar class to the vehicle booked (Ford Escape or similar) - I chose a Subaru Outback which was low mileage and in good condition, but had not been cleaned/valeted between rentals.

    Overall, a very satisfactory rental. I would use Car Hire Search again.

  • Yes my car was ready and waiting for me and in good condition. The lady on the desk was efficient and friendly. I had just one query which was directed to Argus and the lady in customer service was again efficient and friendly. The only slight grumble would be the cost of the refuelling charge which I felt was excessive. However I am happy with the service I received and should the occasion to hire a car on the continent arise again I would definitely use Argus. Many thanks for your service.

  • Update to my earlier review (but you don't need to read that review for this one to make sense). Argus: Fantastic team, would book through them again and again...
    But: HERTZ!!!!
    Grrrrr. Everywhere (including filling stations) was closed when we made our return trip to the airport on Sunday; so, due to my inefficient preparation, we had to return the car with the fuel tank about 65% - say 15 litres short of being full. The bill which eventually arrived from Hertz was £69!!! Legal but immoral? Be warned, read the small print about not returing the car full of fuel. Oh, and insurance excess insurance (bit of a tongue-twister) would be a huge weight off the mind, in the event of a minor bent fender.

  • Although a bit of a novice to this car hire malarkey everything was pretty straight forward. Did call the customer service line with a query and this was efficiently dealt with. It was made clear where and how to collect my vehicle so hard to fault.
    The car was clean, ready and virtually brand new and the staff at the collection desk were most helpful. The whole collection process only took about 5 mins.

  • The only complaint I have is that the vehicle collection procedure was not not completed in yhe arrivals hall of Palma airport, as was stated in the original booking process. My group included two ladies who had required special assistance in boarding the aircraft, wheelchairs being required. Because of the belief that the car collection process was to take place in the arrivals hall I had assumed that I would collect the car and then return to arrivals and collect my passengers. As it turned out the Budget/Avis desk I had to use was at least 400 metres away in a sepetate car park and since we were not sure of where it was my co-travellers had to accompany me to this desk, taking our luggage with us. This was most unsatisfactory, compounded by the fact that by the time we reached the desk there was a queue which required a one hour wait before we could collect our car.
    Value for money as far as the hire of the car was concerned, no doubt. I would, however,think twice about believing what is said about the desk location on your website, and I would definitely avoid a booking requiring walking to the car-hire offices located in the car park.

  • There was initial confusion when making the booking. I wanted to pay the low deposit but the full cost was taken upon me making the booking. I did, however, resolve this over the telephone, with customer services.

    When collecting the car from budget, I was under the impression that there would be no further cost. However, budget said we had to pay over £150 for insurance. This was not expected at all. The car we received was excellent. It was brand new with only 7 miles on the clock.

  • Everything done on-line. Information & instructions were clear. Nothing needed to be queried or re-checked.

    Due to a missed flight connection, we needed to contact the pick-up location to advise of our delay. Number had changed from that quoted on the booking documents.

    Car ready - in good condition - no problems throughout hire period. Drop off process at end of hire (different location) extremely simple.

  • Communication with Argus was rather difficult. They sent an email acknowledgment of my booking but it took some days for the voucher to come. I had to contact them to make sure I was going to get the voucher. I didn't have a record of the transaction and payments made until it came with the voucher.
    The car was ready at Nantes airport and Citer car hire were good to deal with.

  • The car hire voucher etc... were received promptly. However as there was a delay with my flight I had the opportunity to more clear read the details. I was very surprised to see that you expected me to take many number of other pieces of information I would not normally do to collect a car. I am a very regular traveller and fly back to the UK 3 times a month and hire a car. I was expecting that I was going to be turned down for my hire car as I did not have a utility bill with me and only had a debit card (not a credit card as you clearly stipulate). This added some extra anxiety to my trip and I wished that I had not booked with you. However at the Avis desk in Liverpool none of the extra information was needed and I merely handed over my debit card and only the plastic part of my driving licence. The hire went really well overall but I was annoyed with the fine print of your voucher. Consequently unless more specific instructions for each car hire provider are detailed on the voucher in the future I do not expect that I will use your service again as I feel that this at some poinin timet could be used as a means to refuse the hire. #

    Service was poor from both the rental agency and car trawlers.
    There MUST be some indication on your site that the rental is off site.At present there is no indication of this until the reservation has been made.
    I will not use you as a broker again until this happens.

    The confirmation for the car rental are not hugely explicit with the type of documentation you need to bring when renting the car, so would suggest to ring the car rental firm to find out what is required before heading down, especially if you are not a UK resident.

  • I had no reason to contact Argus as everything seemed to go smoothly.

    Green Motion were excellent - very prompt in collecting us and easy to deal with. The car was ready for us on arrival and we were given a better car than expected. Hopefully I won't get any late surprises on my credit card statement for any 'sneaky' extra charges (happens overseas quite a lot). I have used Argus before and would use them again.

  • The car hire company used by Argus in Menorca was GOLDCAR. They collected us at the airport within half an hour of landing and took us, along with two other couples, to their depot a couple of miles away from the airport. The other two couples were attended to first and both were subjected to what I can only describe as a hard sell. The staff were VERY insistent that an additional insurance policy should be taken out, costing approximately 100 Euros . This made the total hire cost (vehicle, full tank of petrol, extra insurance) more than 250 Euros. It was like being held to ransom!!
    When it came to our turn we decided that we would return to the airport and hire a vehicle from one of the reputable companies there. We hired a car from Europcar at a cost of 139 Euros, returning it full of fuel. The cost of fuel for the week was 38 Euros!
    The one saving grace for GOLDCAR was that when we picked up our bags to walk the two miles back to the airport they offered to take us back in their vehicle, which we accepted.

  • No problems with Argus but on picking up car from Europcar hire all seemed too complicated. Security deposits, insurances etc all seemed to make me feel like LOTS of money would be coming off my credit card. In the end a car hire i thought would cost less than £200 ended up £280 overall with deposits insurances etc. Not good, lets make it more simple and clear as to what final costs will be.Car was ready, but not parked in the right slot. A warning light was on but on asking one of the carhire staff I was told to ignore it for the week! #

  • Argus has a great and easy to use site that gives better rates than almost anyone else. What i liked is that it is very transparent. i found other sites that had supposedly cheaper rates but the fine print had a lot of hidden rates!
    we picked up from europcar at london gatwick and returned at edinburgh. Everything was great - quick checkout, relatively new car, friendly service and there was no problem with anything. i'll definitely be using argus again.

  • False advertising - when we arrived to pick up our pre-bookd car, we were informed that they did not have availability in the category that we had pre-booked and pre-paid. Unsatisfactory attempts to resolve the issue and no clarity regarding refund of price difference in category paid for and the category we had to take. The employee at the deswk was dis-interested in helping to sort out the problem.

    Can understand that rental companies may not be able to offer a specific car but should be able to offer a car in the pre-booked category ... otherwise - false advertising! Will not be using Argus again.

  • Paid for an estate car as lots of luggage and got a small car. Argus said they would swap it, but despite contacting them it didn't appear. Had to pay for one of our party & their luggage to get back to Manchester airport as we couldn't all fit in the car!!! A week later and we have still not been given any refund for paying for a larger car or compensation for the inconvenience........very, very poor service, would not recommend and would not use this company again. #

    Car was new (500 Km) so was a bit nervous.
    As with almost all of the hirers the waiver insurance cost always seems too high to warrant. This element could be improved.

  • The car was in very good condition and drove well. The pick up service was relatively poor. The car hire service was some didtance from the airport terminal and no curtesy service provided. The service was slsow and inefficient - little explanation given of the car, which was ready and not enough attention to detail. Drop off was easy but you then had to use the commercial shuttle bus to get to the terminal. #

  • We waited 5 days for confirmation of our hire car, ended up phoning them to find out our chosen car wasn't available, a day before we were due to pick it up! the money for this car has been pending from our bank account for 2 weeks now! We have been away and come back again! Another car was arranged and payment removed from our account, so in other words it has cost more than double, and a lot of stress for my girlfriend as our trip was due to bereavement. #

  • Had to ring Argus 3 times to chase voucher. Continually told it had been sent, then told it had not as I needed to pay deposit. Voucher finally arrived 10 minutes before leaving for the airport. Suffice to say, I will never use a booking agency for car hire again.

  • The car was was advetised as available from T1 or T2. The hirer (Centauro) turned out to be located at a remote site which required us to wait for a minibs.
    Although advertised as a frequent service we had to wait 30 minutes both at pick up and return.
    The office location is fairly difficult to find even with the map provided.
    The actual car was Ok but the Centauro office was a mess and the staff weren't very helpful.
    I pre booked a sat nav but when I picked up the vehicle was told they had no record of the booking and weren't able to provide one as they only had sufficient for pre booked requests!!
    I'll avoid Centauro in future. Argus / Car Hire Search watch out Centauro they'll damage your reputation.

  • The reason for the low customer service rating is for using a provider which is OFF AIRPORT. One only discovers this after the booking has been made and the provider details are revealed. Not only is Green Motion not at Heathrow Airport but you have to pay £4.50 on the Hotel Hoppa Service each way to the pick up location. I find this totally unacceptable when clearly booking a car from the the airport. On arrival I had to wait 30 minutes for a HOTEL HOPPA and the journey time to the pick up was 35 minutes. As for the return journey...the first Hoppa was full, the second was delayed so I arrived at the airport 95 minutes after dropping the car! Luckily I had allowed extra time. #

  • Even though the rental conditions for a one day hire said "get full of fuel, bring back full" the person at the car hire desk, while I thought he was taking my credit card details for the excess "hold", which would have been fine with me, as no charges occur until and unless the funds are actually drawn down on, actually charged my Australian credit card for about 99euro of fuel, without telling me what he was doing. When I refused to sign-off on that, he eventually cancelled the transaction, but when I got home I discovered that it had actually gone through on my account and then been refunded, so I was still up for Australian credit card fees for using the card overseas and for foreign currency conversion charges, and ended up out-of-pocket on the transactions. To add insult to injury, when I actually got in to the car, I found that it was down nearly an eighth of a tank, and I had to go back in to the pick-up office to get it properly topped up! Not a very happy customer by the time I actually left Dublin Airport! When I was filling it on the way back the next day, I discovered that the fuel cap said Diesel, while the external flap said Petrol - very confusing and potentially disastrous had I put the wrong fuel in - I did point this out to the person who took the keys back from me. #
