Athens Airport ? full name Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport ? opened in 2001 and is located 27 kilometres east of the city centre, near the suburb of Spata. Metro line 3 runs from Athens Airport to Syntagma in the city centre. In addition three 24 hour express bus services cover the 27 kilometre stretch between the airport and the city. Taxis are also readily available and the journey takes approximately 35 minutes.
Parking at Athens airport is easy as Athens International Airport provides 4,800 short and long-term parking lots. All parking facilities are equipped with automated payment machines for easy and quick payment, while electronic message screens provide continuous information on parking spaces.
Athens Airport has been voted one of the top places to shop out of all the European airports. Over 50 selected shops and 14 dining facilities with a wide variety of specialties operate in the Shopping Centre of Athens International Airport.
