Airports
The main international airports are Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga, Gran Canaria, Alicante and Tenerife South. However, there are now 47 international airports linking Spain to many European cities and providing high standards and facilities. These are all run by Aena (Aeropuertos Espanoles y Navegacion Aerea).
Motorways
The Spanish motoways are known as "autopistas" and "autovias", toll paying and free roads respectively. The network is made up of interurban autopistas linking major cities and six radial autopistas starting in Madrid and radiating to other autopistas. All motorways are marked by blue signs, with toll-paying ones named as "AP-x" and non-tolled as "A-x" (where x is the road number). Tolls are charged on most motorways at tollbooths ("autopistas de peajes"). Each autopista has its own pricing structure, so tolls vary. The speed limit on these roads is 120 Kph (74mph).
Trains
The Spanish railway system is operated by the state run Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Españoles (RENFE). The AVE high speed rail line is the fastest service and operates between major stations, including: Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Cordoba, Lerida, Zaragosa and Valencia. There are also smaller regional operators in areas like the Basque Country and major cities like Barcelona. Plans are underway to link the northern AVE service from Madrid to the French TGV line.
