Tourists' Guide to Spain
From the hip nightlife of Barcelona to the sophisticated streets and squares of Madrid; from the party playground of the Costa del Sol to the hidden beaches and bays of the Basque Country, Spain offers breaks to suit all tastes. The lively culture of fiestas and flamenco means night owls will never be bored, and the legendary paella and tapas will have your tastebuds calling out for more.
A large country by European standards, there are pockets of attractive destinations dotted around the country ? with most must-see attractions to be found in Catalonia, in the north-east; Andalusia, on the south coast; Valencia, in the east; the capital, Madrid; and Galicia and the Basque Country in the north.
Those looking for a beach holiday are spoilt for choice; and the most popular destinations are the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca and the Costa Brava within easy reach of Malaga, Valencia and Barcelona, respectively. The legendary Benidorm divides opinion, but there's no questioning its appeal for party animals!
The best nightlife is to be found in the big cities especially Barcelona and Madrid, where the streets really come alive at night. Looking for something a bit more chilled? Why not try trekking in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada? After all, Spain is one of the most mountainous countries in Europe. Art and architecture buffs won't want to miss the glorious, as yet unfinished, Sagrada Familia Church in Barcelona; or the weird and wonderful Gaudi Park in the same city. Madrid is a great city for museums and art galleries, whilst wonderful examples of Moorish architecture can be found in Granada and Seville. In short, there's much more to Spain than just sun, sea and sangria!
